The Mount Vernon City Council approved site plan for the Mount Vernon Family Dentistry site.
Some dirt work at 311 Virgil Avenue Southeast had already started, trying to get ahead of the ground freezing this winter. That dirt work is known as “at risk” work, but is allowed to happen before the site was approved.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the site plan and changes requested by Mount Vernon Family Dentistry.
One of the changes requested was the level of tint and clear glass on the ground floor for the dentistry building, with the tint to the entry windows being made to accommodate the receptionist for the office. City planner Laura Eckles noted that the requests were reasonable and allowed.
Ben Pospisil, in his application Oct. 5, noted that to get to work on the building prior to Iowa’s freeze, they have pre-ordered the dental equipment and building materials like windows and transformer. Windows have a 16 week delay, transformer has a four to six month wait and new dental equipment has nine month delay.
“A lot of thought and planning has gone into the current blueprint for our new dental office,” Pospisil wrote. “We all want this new building to not only enhance the beauty of Mount Vernon’s business area, but we as a small town dental office need it to be practical and efficient in order for patients not to perceive this as over the top.”
Pospisil also noted as soon as they move into their new building, several new medical businesses are interested in taking over their First Street location.
