On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the League of Women Voters hosted a child care solutions summit, attended by local business and community leaders affected by the child care shortage and those passionate about offering assistance in the cause.
Nearly thirty community leaders attended the summit to exchange innovative ideas and explore potential solutions. In collaboration with Iowa Women’s Foundation, the participants explored six strategies that may suit our community’s need for quality, affordable and flexible childcare and began developing solutions that will make a difference in both the short- and long-term.
At the conclusion of the summit, the community leaders established four committees dedicated to continued work toward specified solutions and two members agreed to oversee the progress; Stephanie West and Nicole McAlexander will co-contract the Mount Vernon — Lisbon Childcare Solutions Group, with eight co-subcontractors leading the committees.
The League of Women Voters is proud to pass this mission onto the passionate members of our community and, along with the Iowa Women’s Foundation, will continue to support this cause.
