The Lisbon Parks and Recreation commission was recently incorporated as a non-profit entity.
Lisbon city administrator Brandon Siggins said that non-profit status will allow the organization to apply for grants that city government can’t receive, and operate similar to the Lisbon Fire Department’s board. It’s also similar to the Friends of the Lisbon Public Library and Lisbon History Center Foundation.
The move will also allow the parks and recreation group to to apply for liquor licenses for Lisbon Sauerkraut Days and run their own beer tent at the softball tournaments at the Lisbon City Park and Lisbon sports complex. The no alcohol in the park had stopped the softball tournaments from returning this past Sauerkraut Days.
Parks and recreation director Drayton Kamberling said the commission will be voting for their elected officers – president, treasurer and vice president – at a coming meeting from current parks and recreation board members.
Council member Sara Nost said she thought this was a great idea, opening doors for parks and recreation to support different activities.
