The Mount Vernon-Lisbon cross country team traveled to the WaMaC conference meet in Independence Thursday, Oct. 13, with the boys runners-up and the girls emerging conference champions.
“We had a wonderful meet,” said Mustangs head coach Kory Swart. “Both teams are definitely trending in the right direction.”
On the girls side of competition, the team featured three first team all-conference performers in Lourdes Mason (overall champ), Laura Swart, and Emrie Johnson. Second team all-conference honors went to Kiersten Swart.
“Our top three were great for us, but both Kiersten Swart and Hailey Bock had outstanding races to help secure the win over (second place) Solon. It was easily our best performance to date,” Swart said.
For the boys, the coach said, Grady Olberding “continued his great season” by placing third to be first team all-conference. Second team all-conference performers were Klayten Perreault, Junior Krob, and Wes Sadler.
“Marion was the favorite to win, but our guys have closed the gap throughout the year. We were really proud of how they competed against some of the best teams in the state,” said Swart.
“We’re really looking forward to the state qualifying meet next week at Washington.”
