Cornell goalkeeper Sabrina Ibanez recorded nine saves in Wednesday’s 2-0 women’s soccer loss to Midwest Conference foe Grinnell at Springer Field.
The Rams (2-10-1 overall) dropped to 1-1 in MWC play, while Grinnell (4-1-4 overall) remained unbeaten at 2-0-1.
Cornell was locked in a scoreless battle with its in-state rival well into the second half. The Pioneers caught a break at the 69-minute mark, intercepting a pass deep in Cornell territory and converting the initial goal for a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers added a second goal in the 80th minute to close the scoring.
Cornell’s Sanne Croes led all players with four shots, including three on goal. Sam O’Brien attempted three shots for the Rams, who finished with 10 for the match.
Ibanez faced 16 shots from the Pioneers, going the full 90 minutes.
