Lions ClubThe Mount Vernon Lions Club met on Monday, Sept. 27, at Whitey’s in Lisbon. Bernadette Lane arranged for the speakers. They were Grace Kann, a Cornell student who worked for the City of Dubuque on a tree growing program this past summer and Kent VonBehren who is the project manager for Releaf Cedar Rapids an organization helping to regrow the city tree canopy after the 2000 derecho. The local Lions Club is going to partner with the Lions Club International Foundation to plant 100 trees in the Mount Vernon/Lisbon area to celebrate the club’s 100 year anniversary in 2023. These two speakers talked about their experience working with other cities on similar projects.
The next Lions Club meeting is on October 24 also at Whitey’s.
