The Mount Vernon-Lisbon cross country squad stacked up the wins Monday, Sept. 19, at the Solon Invitational with the girls and boys teams both placing first. Also taking first place were Lourdes Mason and Grady Olberding. Having two individual champions, said Mustangs head coach Kory Swart, “was icing on the cake.”
“The Solon meet was a great meet for MV-L cross country,” Swart said. “It is always nice to get the team wins for both the boys and the girls.”
The girls team won in a tiebreaker with hosts Solon, with Gabi Moehlman able to beat the sixth runner for the Spartans.
“It is a great reminder that every runner matters, from one to seven,” the coach said.
“Hailey Bock also ran a really nice race as our fifth runner. The girls are working hard to close our spread from number one through five, and that will be key going down the stretch,” said Swart.
On the boys side, said the coach, “Junior Krob continues to run smart races and improve, which has been fun to watch.
“The boys are definitely moving in the right direction, and will keep getting better moving forward.”
The team can next be caught in action Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the West Delaware Invitational.
