The wins keep coming for the Mustangs varsity football team. The group hosted the Benton Bobcats Friday, Sept. 23, defeating them handily 47-0.
The contest also happened to be Mount Vernon’s homecoming game.
Clark Younggreen scored the team’s first touchdown with 31 seconds to play in the first.
Quarterback Joey Rhomberg was responsible for four of the team’s numerous touchdowns. His first connection came in the second quarter, with a pass to Evan Brase for an 11-yard touchdown with 8:54 to play in the half.
Rhomberg found Brase again in the third to put the team up 25-0 with a 39-yard touchdown throw. The quarterback connected with Caden Stimmel later in the third, and Brase once more with five seconds to play in the third quarter. With Ben Crock’s (six-for-six on the night) point-after, the Mustangs closed the third up 40-0.
Tyler Panos scored the final goal of the game with a 19-yard touchdown run. Crock connected on his sixth point-after, and the game remained 47-0 until the end.
