The Columbus Wildcats hosted the Lisbon Lions football squad last week, defeating them 49-20.
The Wildcats posted the first four touchdowns of the game, covering a significant amount of yards. The first three were for 48, 68, and 46 yards, respectively.
The Lions, facing a 27-0 deficit, fought back in the third quarter with quarterback Cohen Kamaus connecting with Luke Czarnecki for a 40-yard touchdown play. Gage Holub kicked the extra point to make it 27-7.
Baylor Speidel posted two more touchdowns for Lisbon with five and six yard runs, but the Wildcats were too much for the visiting team
“Tough game tonight,” said Lions head coach Phil Whitman. “Columbus was a very physical team.”
Looking ahead, Whitman said, “Wapello will be a physical team next week. Hopefully we can get a little healthy, and get a few guys back from injury.”
Whitman was referring to the multiple key players the team has been without. Matthias Kohl recently returned to defense for his first game of the season, while Kaden Caspers (RB/LB), Wyatt Smith (OL/DL) will miss the remainder of the season. The team is hopeful to see Indy Harbaugh (WR/DB) and Hunter Clark (OL/LB) back in action soon.
The Lions, now 1-3, will host Wapello Friday, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
