Cornell’s women’s tennis team split a pair of duals Saturday on the road, including a 6-3 victory over Sauk Valley Community College.
The Rams were tripped up by Lake Forest, 9-0, earlier in the day in the Midwest Conference opener.
Cornell (3-2) swept all three doubles matches against Sauk Valley. The No. 1 tandem of Makayla Johnson and Audrey Small and No. 3 partners Kylie Jacobson and Ashley Drake both won by identical 8-5 scores. Ashley Mink and Josalin McKeever earned a hard-fought 9-8 (6) win at No. 2.
Mink came back to record a 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 2 singles. The Rams also picked up singles wins from Small (6-3, 6-4 at No. 4) and Drake (6-2, 6-0 at No. 6).
The Rams dropped all nine matches against a strong Lake Forest squad, picked to finish second in the MWC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Coming up – The Rams are on the road next Saturday, Sept. 17 for MWC duals against Lawrence at 9 a.m. and Ripon at 2 p.m.
