Cornell had an answer for each of Rockford’s goals Wednesday night and earned a 2-2 tie in nonconference men’s soccer action at Wedgbury Stadium.
George Archer distributed two assists and sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Spina worked all 90 minutes in his first collegiate start to pace the Rams, who moved to 0-2-1 on the season.
After Rockford (0-0-3) put the initial goal on the board early in the second half, Cornell countered with a strike from senior Cian McNamara – his second goal of the season – that evened the match at 1-1 in the 63rd minute.
The Regents regained the lead at 2-1 at the 73-minute mark. The Rams responded five minutes later with a tying goal from Zach Miller, his first of the fall.
The Rams outshot the home team, 16-15, with eight of them on goal. Archer led the attack with five shots, followed by Miller and Andrew Lopez with three apiece.
Spina recorded five saves, three coming after intermission.
