A no parking zone has been established along 10th Avenue from the intersection of Palisades Road north.
That road serves as the primary entrance to the Mount Vernon School campuses, and was identified by both the City of Mount Vernon and Mount Vernon Schools as an area no parking should happen to allow emergency vehicles access to the school.
The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police chief said any further no parking restrictions from the bottom of the hill where roads head to the middle school or high school will be the responsibility of the Mount Vernon Community School District to establish. The stretch of 10th Avenue from Palisades to the hill is city jurisdiction.
Schools and the city believe no parking along this stretch of road will help ease congestion into and out of the school system and the Lester Buresh Community Family Wellness Center, and no residents utilize the area for daily parking.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch said signs will be posted prior to school starting.
“They may be temporary signs for the first several weeks, but we will get proper signs installed still this fall,” Nosbisch said.
Shannon also recommended motorists be mindful of pedestrians, as schools have started once again.
