The Mount Vernon Mustang softball team brought home the Class 3A trophy as state champions in the softball tournament Friday, July 22.
The Mustangs defeated Wahlert Catholic 3-1 and Saydel 2-0 on their way to the championship match-up with Davenport Assumption.
The championship match-up saw Mount Vernon compete against Davenport Assumption, the same team the Mustangs encountered in last year’s tournament. The results this time was Mount Vernon was champions with a 10-5 score. Read the story of all three games and more photos from the contest on pages 9-10.
