The Mount Vernon varsity baseball club battled through a bumpy week last week, losing four games before ending with a win.
Monday, June 20 Game One
The first challenge for the beleaguered Mustangs was a doubleheader at West Delaware.
Game one was run almost exclusively by the Hawks, who took the contest 10-0.
Mason Hartman shouldered the loss for Mount Vernon, pitching three innings and striking out three.
Game TwoThe Mustangs managed to score a couple of runs in game two, ultimately losing 7-2.
Collin Crawford, sophomore, provided a spark for the visiting team with two hits, including a double.
Thursday, June 23Game One The Mustangs went on to drop two decisions in Solon, losing the first game 13-4.
Colin Bentley took the loss on the mound, pitching for three innings and fanning three.
Friday, June 24
The Mustangs bounced back when hosting the Anamosa Blue Raiders, defeating their traveling opponents 8-4.
The home team posted four runs in the second, giving them a 4-1 lead. The Blue Raiders put up two runs in the third, to put them behind 4-3. The Mustangs scored another run in the fourth, and three more in the sixth to give them the win.
Jackson Watters was awarded the win on the mound, pitching four innings and striking out two.
