Lisbon has hired science teacher Stacy Rector to fill Shannon Walker’s former position, but the district now has another opening at the high school science level, with teacher Jordan Meyer resigning in June.
Lisbon secondary principal Aaron Becker said it is an issue he and incoming assistant principal Brandon Horman are working on, with an advertisement and signing bonus for a qualified science teacher.
“It’s not just an issue for Lisbon Schools, but schools across the state,” Becker said. “We haven’t been the only school district without a science teacher this last year, and many larger districts have had multiple openings in that particular field. We just don’t want to be one of those schools again this fall.”
Becker and other members of the incoming administrative team are brainstorming worst case scenarios on how to address the science education this school year, but they remain hopeful that a teacher can be found by the July school board meeting.
