Roughly 24 pickleball players participated in the first annual Pickle-Me-Dink social event held at the Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center Wednesday, May 18.
The 12 teams of players competed in a tournament, with play held throughout the morning.
“This was more a social event to bring together a number of players who took part in our pickleball learning sessions over the past year,” said Mary Schlichtey, one of the organizers. “It was a celebration of our pickleball classes at the center and a chance for our players to take part in some organized play.”
After several rounds of play on the two indoor pickleball courts, players had a catered lunch provided by Bon Appetit.
For Schlictey and Vickie Kriz, it’s the first organized event of this nature they have developed.
The pickleball club has grown from roughly six players in early 2020 to the now more than 30 who participate at the center every week.
