The City of Mount Vernon approved easements for Interstate Power and Light (Alliant Energy) to bury some overhead power lines.
IPL was looking for approval of easements for three properties owned by the City of Mount Vernon. The first would place lines along Palisades Road S.W. under the road. The easement would stretch for property between 1415 and 1121 Palisades Road Southwest, which are owned by the school district and city.
The second easement would be at 1415 Palisades Road, on property owned by the City of Mount Vernon.
The third easement is for property located adjacent to 1701 Palisades Road SW and 1702 10th Street S.W.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch said that Alliant Energy is looking to put more lines underground as money is available.
“ITC owns the feed lines which come into the community, but IPL owns the lines that run throughout much of Mount Vernon,” Nosbisch said. “Based on the derecho, it looks like Alliant wants to place as many of these lines as they can underground for less disruption of service.”
All resolutions were passed unanimously by the city council.
