Mount Vernon residents will be receiving their first communications on the new garbage program from the city in the coming weeks.
City administrator Chris Nossbisch said the first communication is a survey of what size garbage and recycling canisters they would need for their households.
“If a citizen does not respond, they will be getting a 65-gallon container for both garbage and recycling,” Nosbisch said. “If you want a different size, you’re going to have to let the city know what size of receptacle you will be needing.”
After that first communication, Republic Waste Management will be sharing information on what items they accept for recycling and what items should be considered garbage.
If citizens need to see the different size of containers available, City Hall has the containers on display.
The new contract with Republic Waste Management begins July 1, 2022.
Mayor Tom Wieseler will be hosting a forum in city hall on a Saturday sometime within the next two months to discuss the program.
