Cornell women’s tennis wrapped up its spring break schedule on Tuesday falling in a pair of matches to Alvernia University 8-1 and Emerson College 9-0.
In Monday’s match against Emerson, the Lions claimed a 3-0 lead after doubles. The No. 1 pair of Emmaline Fievet and Amanda Dragon fell 8-2, while Ashley Mink and Makayla Johnson battled hard in an 8-4 loss at No. 2.
Emerson swept the singles matches all in straight sets to complete the match. Mink fell at No. 3 6-4, 6-3 while Dragon was narrowly edged 7-6(4), 6-4 at No. 4.
In the spring break finale, the shorthanded Rams fell behind after doubles to Alvernia University dropping an 8-3 and 8-1 decision at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Alvernia won four of the five contested singles matches in straight sets to clinch the meet. Mink rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Dragon again battled tough and narrowly fell 7-6(3), 6-3 at No. 4.
Cornell will return to the courts for a non-conference matchup with Bethany Lutheran College on March 19 at home.
