Cornell’s women’s tennis team got its spring season underway Sunday, dropping its opening dual by a 5-4 score to Immaculata.
The short-handed Rams had their work cut out, giving up two points with forfeits at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Cornell managed to hang tough with Immaculata, winning four of the seven contested matches.
Seniors Emmaline Fievet and Amanda Dragon both went 2-0 on the day and picked up the lone doubles win with an 8-2 victory at No. 1. Fievet (6-3, 6-2 at No. 1), Dragon (6-4, 6-0 at No. 4) and sophomore Makayla Johnson (6-1, 6-0 at No. 2) recorded straight set wins for the Rams in singles.
Cornell’s No. 2 doubles pair of Johnson and Ashley Mink came up just short in an 8-5 loss.
The Rams return to the courts Monday to continue their spring break trip, playing Emerson at 7 a.m. and Ohio Northern at 5:30 p.m.
