Lisbon Schools will be looking to adapt new social studies curriculum for the seventh through 12th grades.
Lisbon secondary principal Aaron Becker noted that text books used in classes have publication dates of 1985 and the early 1990s.
Becker said the social studies educators at the district are currently reviewing text book proposals from McGraw Hill and Savvas Learning Company (formerly Pearson K-12), and hopes to decide between the two at the March school board meeting.
Becker estimated the cost for new textbooks might be in the $80,000 to $100,000 range for the five grades, and the books will cover the gamut of social study instructions and topics at the high school and middle school levels.
Lisbon school board member Robyn Richey asked if there would be a chance for the board to review the materials that the school would be approving as well. Becker said that would be something that could be done.
