In the extra matches division at the Thursday, Jan. 13, meet Maddie Plotz earned a win by decision over Stormy Bauwens of Clear Creek-Amana at Thursday, Jan. 13’s meet. Plotz took a loss by fall against Teagan Schreiber later in the meet.
Mount Vernon’s Libby Dix (170) earned a major decision over caitlyn Williams from Clear Creek-Amana at the meet.
The Iowa High School Girls State Wrestling tournament will be held Friday, Jan 21, and Saturday, Jan. 22, at the XTream Arena in Coralville. Mount Vernon will be represented by wrestlers Plotz, Dix, Claire Gaffney and Betsy Morf at the event.
All championship matches will be televised on Mediacom’s statewide channel, MC22, starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, for those unable to attend the tournament in person. Multiple replays and OnDemand viewing will follow in subsequent days for the program.
MC22 tapped veteran wrestling analysts Rachel Watters and Mark Ironside to provide viewers with competition coverage. Ironside is a 2010 Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame Inductee.
The IWCOA will recognize the top wrestlers in each weight class. High school teams will earn recognition as IWCOA Girls State Champion, Runner-up, and Third Place Team.
