The sledding hill in uptown Mount Vernon was a very popular destination Thursday, Dec. 30, and Friday, Dec. 31, following the first snow storm in Mount Vernon Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Emily Reddish noted that the temperartures Thursday were just perfect, and the minor coating of ice underneath the sledding hill Thursday was really adding distance to the kids sledding.
“We try to enjoy all seasons here in Iowa, and this is one of our favorite activities for the winter,” Emily said. “It’s so nice there is a designated hill that’s safe for kids to enjoy sledding on.”
Tasha Whitman noted at roughly 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, there were more than 20 kids taking part in sledding on the hill at once. Trying to avoid the curbs on the hill was the biggest concern.
Griffin McGuire got a chance to take his snowboard down the hill a few times Friday, Dec. 31. The snowboard was a gift he had gotten for a birthday in early December, and this was the first chance he got to use it. Finding the center of gravity with the board was a minor challenge, but one he was enjoying.
