A minor derailment of a train along the Union Pacific railroad in Lisbon has occurred Friday, Dec. 31.
According to Susan Stevens, communications manager with Union Pacific Railroad, the train derailed in Lisbon at roughly 1:30 p.m. No crew was injured in the derailment.
“The track is being cleared and it is anticipated the track will be reopening early tomorrow [Saturday, Jan. 1],” Stevens said. “The cause of the derailment is under investigation.”
The train is currently stopped along the railroad tracks between Washington Street, Hoosier Road, and Adams Avenue, impacting those crossings.
Motorists should seek alternative routes to and from Lisbon in the interim.
The Union Pacific crossing with Hwy. 1 in Mount Vernon is not currently impacted by the Lisbon Washington Street closure.
