The Mount Vernon Mustangs boys’ basketball team went into extra minutes of play against West Delaware to get a 62-59 win Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Mount Vernon went into the half-time of the game with 16 points compared to West Delaware’s 24.
In the second half, the Mustangs stampeded to add additional points, drawing the West Delaware lead to six points at the end of the third period and tying at the end of the fourth period, 44-44.
At the end of the first overtime period, the scores remained tied at 47-47.
In the sixth period, the Mustangs found 15 points to West Delaware’s 12 to secure the win.
Mount Vernon’s Joey Rhomberg was hot at the net for the Mustangs, scoring 19 of the team’s points in the win. Brady Erickson had 13 points and Evan Brase pulled down another 12.
Evan Brase and Rhomerg pulled down 7 rebounds each, with Ryan Naeve getting 4 rebounds in the win. The Mustangs had a total of 26 rebounds made in the contest. West Delaware pulled down 25 rebounds themselves, 22 of those on defense.
