Although the weather outside has been quite warm, soon it will be frightful. Snow will blanket our town, icicles will hang from our roofs, and kids will head to the sledding hill.
Until then, why not share some books about snow? Cole Library has two new picture books about winter, both gorgeously-illustrated by Kenard Pak. Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter follows a brother and sister as they stroll through a forest, past a farm, and into their town greeting the signs of a changing season. Written and illustrated by Pak, each page is full of beautifully sketched details from plants and animals to twinkling lights and softly falling snow.
In Ten Ways to Hear Snow, Lina identifies ten different sounds made by snow as she walks to her grandmother’s house. Written by Cathy Camper, the book provides new ways of seeing and connecting with winter. Kenard Pak’s quiet and atmospheric art lends perfectly to the depth of the story. These two books are a wonderful way to share the season with young readers and are available now in the Children’s Room.
Cole Library is closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3, so check out BRIDGES and Tumblebooks for more picture books to read over our break.
