If you did, you were not alone. It was on the New York Times Bestsellers List for 104 weeks.
Towles’ much anticipated second novel has been released and though very different in content, it is a wonderful story. His new novel The Lincoln Highway is set in the 1950s. We follow the lives of 4 boys through a 10-day period.
One of the boys – Emmett – has just returned home to Nebraska after completing a one-year sentence for manslaughter at the Salina Juvenile Work Farm in Kansas. Reunited with his younger brother, they plan to start life over in California. Unknown to Emmett and the warden who delivers him home, two of Emmett’s roommates from the work farm stowed away in the trunk of the warden’s car. These two stowaways want Emmett to drive them not to California but to New York. This begins an unforgettable journey on the Lincoln Highway.
