Drop-off hours at the public works site on Bryant Road could be expanded.
In order to open the site for more hours, the Mount Vernon City Council approved installing three lights at the entrances to the location. Those lights will also help the city to put video cameras at the sight.
Those cameras, explained Mount Vernon city administrator Chris Nosbisch, is to curb any illegal dumping that would happen to yard waste items at the Bryant Park location.
“We’re reluctant to leave the gates open to the compost or yard waste piles after hours in case someone dumps items off at those piles that aren’t designated for either,” Nosbisch said.
Mount Vernon mayor Jamie Hampton said he liked the idea of extending those hours for the yard waste piles.
The three lights will be paid for with street light funds, even though they are more equivalent to rural yard lights at each of the entrances to the Bryant Road facility.
