The Lisbon Lions varsity volleyball team hosted the Hartwick-Ladora-Victor Warriors Wednesday, Oct. 20 for the quarterfinal round of Class 1A Region 6 competition, sweeping the visitors 3-0 with sets of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-11.
The tight second set found Lisbon very nearly on the ropes, on the wrong end of a 23-20 score. The team rallied for the next five points, giving them a 25-23 victory.
The set, said head coach Lance Kamaus, was the toughest of the three due to “a lot of unforced errors on our end.”
“We didn’t pass poorly, but we just weren’t quite putting the ball where we wanted to, and in turn our hitters weren’t able to finish like we wanted them to,” said Kamaus.
The win improved Lisbon’s record to 35-6, while the Warriors dropped to 12-18.
The Lions hosted Sigourney Monday, Oct. 25 in 1A semifinal action to determine which team would advance to the championship on Wednesday at Benton Community. A win Wednesday would propel Lisbon to a state tournament berth.
The state tournament will be held Nov. 2-4 in Cedar Rapids.
