The Rams women’s tennis team took a 5-4 win over Dubuque in a match played at Small Sport Center arena Friday, Sept. 24.
With the meet tied at 4-4, senior Amanda Dragon clinched it for the Rams with a straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. She capped an unbeaten night on the court, which included an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with partner Emmaline Fievet.
Fievet beat Alyssa Stevenson 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles position. The Rams also received a 6-1, 6-3 win from Ashley Mink at No. 3 singles. No. 2 player Makayla Johnson dropped a tight 7-6 (6), 7-5 decision.
Mink and Johnson collected their first doubles win as partners, coasting 8-1 at No. 2.
The Spartans received three default wins in the dual.
Earlier in the week, the Rams dropped a match to Loras in a 9-0 meet in nonconference play.
Fievet continued her strong play atop the lineup, taking Lauren Diiulio to three sets in a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 loss at No. 1 singles.
Johnson, Mink and Dragon all came up short in their respective singles matches.
Fievet and Dragon lost a tight 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles. Cornell’s No. 2 duo of Mink and Johnson fell 8-2.
