The Mount Vernon Historic Preservation Commission is also still looking into developing a play for Mount Vernon’s 175th anniversary as a community in 2022. Mount Vernon wasn’t incorporated as a community until 1869, but was formed as a community in 1847.
The Commission had hired Joe Jennison and Amy White to work on a script for the production.
The commission learned that they might be on the hook for producing the play themselves, as the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Theatre currently has a full schedule of plays and musicals next year, including another Shakespeare in the Park production. The commission was also advised that during Heritage Days 2022, First Street Community Center stage will be in use by the Mount Vernon Lisbon Community theatre for a production, so they may need to seek a different day or different stage in the community for their production.
Costs for any production are currently being explored and the group may be seeking a director and producer to help with the production after they have seen the script for the production.
The group might not know next steps on that project until October and November.
