The Science Café talks will be returning with two separate events this September.
The first event is an in-person event to be held on the lawn of First Street Community Center Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 5-6 p.m.
Dr. Jerlad Schnoor will be presenting on the topic “Climate Change and the Looming COP26 Glasgow Meeting.”
Schnoor is a professor in the civil and environmental engineering department, with an interdisciplinary program on human toxicology. His research interests include phytoremediation, water quality modeling, groundwater, risk assessments, sustainable development, and the impact of carbon emissions on global change. He also serves as the Project 5 Leader of the Iowa Superfund Research Program.

The second event is a virtual event, to be held on the Zoom platform Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Dr. Peter Thorne will present “Climageddon: Dire Predictions from the IPCC.”
Thorne is the professor and head of the occupational and environmental health department at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Thorne has held a number of prominent national leadership positions, including serving as chairman of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board.
