Portion of shared Business 30 to be repaved
Lisbon will be moving forward with repaving a section of Business 30 in conjunction with Linn County’s repaving project. The city will contribute to repaving a quarter-mile stretch of Business 30 from roughly Dollar General to Lisbon Boulevard, where Linn County is responsible for the westbound lane and Lisbon is responsible for the eastbound lane.
Linn County is repaving the Old Hwy. 30 in its jurisdiction, from Lisbon Boulevard out to Adams Avenue as part of their resurfacing projects this summer. Lisbon sought to make repairs of its Business 30, but the bids were about 30 percent higher than estimated. Linn County bid on resurfacing their stretch of Business 30 last year and locked in a more affordable rate with L.L. Pelling.
Lisbon city engineer David Schechinger has worked with Linn County and L.L. Pelling to get the quarter mile stretch of road completed at the same time as Linn County is resurfacing their portion of road.
The project comes at a roughly $79,000 cost for the City of Lisbon’s stretch of the quarter mile of road.
Schechinger said L.L. Pelling was willing to honor the price Linn County had for the resurfacing project for this quarter mile stretch of road, which would be best for the city to complete now so the stretch of road looks similar as it’s surfaced at the same time.
L.L. Pelling was not willing to negotiate similar prices for all of Business 30, but would for the joint portion between the city and county stretch of road.
The cost of the project is roughly $12,000 higher than the engineer’s original estimates, but that can be attributed to costs of materials being slightly higher and mobilization for the project.
The city rejected bids for the rest of the Business 30 project due to the higher costs of the bids they saw in late May.
